Help Spread the Love! We will be creating artwork with messages of positivity, acceptance, and love!  We will combine drawing, painting, collage and lettering to create a beautiful and unique mixed-media artwork that speaks to our hearts.  We will create a cool background using printmaking and collage techniques. There will be a drawn or painted image on top. Then, the students will be able to choose from a number of uplifting quotes and positive messages, and they will incorporate their chosen message into their mixed-media artwork. If you have a special quote or message that speaks to you, please email it to us before the workshop ([email protected]). Please make sure that the artists eat prior to the workshop as we cannot offer snacks this year, and please read about our Covid-19 procedure below.

Katie had a dream to spread positive messages in the world, and therefore, this workshop is inspired by Katie’s vision and by The Positive Painting Project, which has been created in her honor. Read about both the scholarship fund and the Positive Painting Project below.

Katie Whysong Scholarship for the Arts

The Positive Painting Project

“Middle school is an especially challenging time for many students, and Katie was no exception.  She used art as an outlet to express her feelings and share beauty with the world.  We want to honor her memory by providing opportunities for everyone to do the same.

With the mission of encouraging art as personal expression and a creative outlet, the Katie Whysong Scholarship for the Arts provides funding for local middle school students who may not otherwise be able to access art enrichment and education. In partnership with Artissima Art Studio, we are providing tuition for at least one space in an art class each semester for a student in need. Our goal is to expand the program to allow even more students to work with local artists and share in the vision of “Art for Everyone.”

To further support the goal of “Art for Everyone”, the Positive Painting Project allows our whole community to help create beautiful messages that will inspire and encourage our students, friends, and neighbors.
Please join us in this endeavor!”

Snacks
